busy, busy, busy

The medieval history class has two sewing projects back to back, so I've had little time to blog. Here's two of the kids dressed as Merovingian kings.

(Yes, the wigs are an important part; the Merovingians had a thing about long hair and virility, but they also had to fight, so they braided the hair in front into two braids, as we did, in case you can't tell from the picture.)

And, for all those critics of homeschooling, here's what we did Monday for the girls' history class: a little Monty Python with a garnish of Chopin:

And then we burned London (and were able to do a little fire safety lesson as well):

And if anyone thinks that homeschooling isn't as/more rigorous as institutional schooling, (not that you, dear readers, would think such a thing.) I would ask them, "What do you remember learning in school about the Great Fire of London, the Plague of 1666 or the Restoration?" One of the moms said she remembered one sentence from her history book; "London burned." Anyone? Anyone?
