So I bought this make-your-own-slushee machine on clearance from Mecca, right? (For those of you who are not Mama Dee, that's Target.) And rather than buy the HFCS variety flavored syrup, we've been having great success using juice. Lemonade is the bomb; pomegranate not so much. Mango is super. The savant has even made me one using the devil's drink---Coca Cola.
However, after 4 days of 90 degree weather in September, (it's just wrong I tell you) I decided to try an experiment. Ingredients: being off call, lime juice, 8 eight cubes, a Corona and voila! A beer slushee!!! The savant tried it without knowing and wasn't impressed; thought it was too salty, and then was grossed out when I revealed the secret ingredient. However, it hit the spot as far as I was concerned; the ice kept me hydrated and cool, the lime and beer tasted perfect after a hot day. And it wasn't something I'd want to drink more than one of, so I didn't end up with a iced alcohol drink hangover, either. I deem it much better than Steinbeck's beer milkshake (which I could never bring myself to try, even during my misspent youth.) If it sounds good, come on over and I'll whip you one up.
