Came home to find a pamphlet from our state rep., Jim Hughes, on our doorstep. On it was written, "Sorry I missed you(,) Jim!" So I'm left wondering: did Jim really stop by our house, or is this another campaign worker ploy? I'd write it off as a ploy except that he lives just up the street (past the ravine on the other part.)
Besides, it's more fun to wonder just what he was thinking. I mean, we hang a rainbow flag with the words "We say NO to the Bush agenda!" on it and display a [poster of the American flag with corporate logos where the stars should be.](http://www.syrculturalworkers.com/catalog/catalogIndex/CatFlags.html) *(scroll down to see it)* Did he seriously think he could win our votes? I spent a little time imagining how much fun it would be to ask him, "After perusing your [voting record,](http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=MOH72546&type=category&category=Gun%2BIssues&go.x=6&go.y=7) can you give me one reason why I should vote for you?", just to watch him squirm. Maybe I'll have to take another of the anti-Bush agenda flags down to him with a note saying how sorry I was to have missed his visit, whaddya think?
Since Gi was at at birthday slumber party last night, the boy spent the night @ the niece's and the savant and I had a date. Nothing exciting, just a trip to evil Easton for Barnes and Noble's where we perused the bargain books with little success. Since we've been using our wonderful [public library](http://www.columbuslibrary.org/), we've felt less need to buy books. We did, however, buy some CDs. They have a pretty great selection of old stuff, so I was able to upgrade (from played out cassettes) k.d.lang's [Shadowland](http://www.kdlang.com/discography/1988.htm) and [Absolute Torch and Twang](http://www.kdlang.com/discography/1989.htm) After singing along with her all day, I realized two things: 1) my roots are showing and all the C&W I heard as a kid when my mom played her records is bearing fruit (with a slightly different flavor) and 2) k.d. has knocked Susan Sarandon off the top of my list of 'babes to bag'. *(phrase credit to Kali Mama)*

When I turned 40, I wanted to have a karaoke party where all the guests would sing me their favorite songs as presents and I could sing as well, (of course). It didn't happen, 'cause I never want to clean the house in hot August for anything, even for a birthday party for me. However, now that the smoking ban is in place, I'm rethinking the possibility of some sort of restaurant/bar with a party room that had a good karaoke machine & operator, and song selection (60's,70's and 80' a must!) that would be (necessarily) kid-friendly enough to include all the kids. Actually, in my mind's eye, I'm thinking of an outside place with picnic tables and play equipment nearby (like the places where my family held reunions when I was a kid.) But the place would need to allow alcohol, since it usually takes some liquid courage for folks to get into the karaoke mood. *(not for show-off me---too bad my talent is in inverse proportion to my propensity to get up and display it)* Don't know if I want it enough to get it out of the idea stage, but it makes for interesting thinking while I'm drudging around here. Think I could get k.d. to come and duet "Three Days" with me?
