THE GIRL IS RIDING HER BIKE!!!! With only two spills (one on grass) and two tantrums which involved throwing the bike to the ground. Took her to the Park of Roses parking lot today and started on the grass at the soccer meadow. She soon decided it was too hard to pedal there and was ready to get on the asphalt. She had to go through her usual freak-out-I-can't-do-it, while I did my usual you're-going-to-do-it,*(can you say birth patterning?)* but we got through it. She's very pleased with herself. Granted, she still has trouble braking, and she won't take a turn sharper than 35 degrees, but that'll come with another lesson or two.
Gotta go to pick up the boy from SYC, where they are having a pretend camping trip. I had to lug his teepee, a blanket for the 'floor', a gallon water canteen, my backpack with a flashlight, a plastic picnic tray, a box of cheese crackers and (get this) a pop top can of pork and beans for his lunch. Does that sum up a male approach to camping, or what?

you ain't just whistlin' dixie!
'cause now we're riding over to SYC, which frees up more time than I would have thought to get some school stuff in. I just leave her bike there, then ride her back on the trailer. *This would be such a momentous thing if there weren't just one week left of SYC...but wait, there is summer camp!!*
